Twenty-three days total. I worked from Buenos Aires for the first week and a half, and then took the rest off to explore and enjoy. May is autumn in the north of it and the beginning of winter in the south, which thinned the crowds everywhere and made the last week genuinely cold, but still enjoyable.

Activities

  • Walking tours of Buenos AiresTwo of them, a week apart. Worth doing one in the first few days — the city is easier to read afterwards.
  • Intimate underground tango show, Secreto Tango SocietyBuenos Aires. Small room, unlimited wine.
  • Pub crawlDid this in both Buenos Aires and Rio, and it was a fun time in both.
  • Sunset sailing cruise, Rio de JaneiroOut of Marina da Glória, late afternoon, back after dark.
  • Iguazú fallsTwo days, one on either side of the falls. Staying on the Argentine side at Puerto Iguazú.
  • Perito Moreno GlacierA guided tour to the glacier, with an additional boat trip to get up close.
  • Base of the Towers day hike, Torres del PaineA long day out and back. This is the walk the photograph of the towers came from. Guided as required this time of year.

Food & Drink

  • A rooftop asado with wine pairingPalermo, Buenos Aires. Booked through Viator, and enjoyed it.
  • Tasting menu at Fogón AsadoBuenos Aires. One of the more unique tasting menus I've experienced. It was worth it for me.
  • Lots of empanadas, milanesas (try the Napolitana), steaks, burgers, choripan, and medialunas in Buenos Aires.There are tons of smaller, local spots that have great food.
  • The Hole Bar - Alcatraz SpeakeasyA unique themed-bar experience, especially coming from San Francisco.
